Process Description

Power Activated Carbon (PAC) and Granule Activated Carbon(GAC) are two kinds of activated carbon that widely used in starch sugar industry. Currently, starch sugar production enterprises generally use PAC to refined material. But this process exists many disadvantages, such as not easy to recovery PAC, supplementary material consumption is larger, material is easy to loss, larger labor intensity, and difficult to realize automatic control and so on.

The purification of dextrose and F42 adopts GAC as absorbing material. When the material flow through the GAC column, the column empty time is about 2.5h, the impurities, such as pigment, etc. in the sugar solution is absorbed by the porous structure of GAC. The absorption activity of GAC will be judged invalid after absorbing a certain quantity of impurities and correspondingly each column will discharge a certain amount of invalid GAC every day. These invalid GAC are sent to a furnace which can provide a high temperature environment between 800 and 900ºC for GAC regeneration. The invalid GAC will be transferred into the absorption column again once their absorption activity was resumed in the regeneration furnace. There will only be less than 5% loss in each regeneration process. It has the following advantages compared to the traditional powder PAC decoloring process:

1. It only needs 5% of activated carbon that consumed in the powder activated carbon decoloring process. Of course it saved activated carbon consumption.

2. Low running cost. It only consumes fuel gas used for heating regeneration furnace and needs to replenish the consumed activated carbon.

3. With high degree of automation, low labor intensity.

4. No solid waste, like the invalid powder activated carbon, was produced.
